Tocomax, the smart choice for vitamin E!
As parents, we're always looking for the best for our children. The best schools, the best foods, the best clothes, and even the best vitamins. With enough time spent on the Internet and going through other resources, we can figure out a great deal about schools, clothing, and foods. Being able to determine which vitamins to give our children however, can be a little more complicated, even when we know the benefits of each vitamin.
As a young doctor, I knew the benefits of each of the vitamins and minerals, but except for a few exceptions, failed to understand the importance of the various forms of these vitamins and minerals. This wasn't something that I learned until many years later when I began manufacturing my own supplements. It was then that I discovered that the form that the vitamin comes in can help determine how much of that vitamin gets absorbed. From years of practicing, I knew that calcium citrate had better absorption that calcium carbonate, but that was just skimming the surface of what was to be learned. I still didn't understand well enough how size and co-factors could influence absorption, as well.
When we ingest minerals, the body has to break them down to the appropriate size that fits through the intestinal wall. It also has to bind them to an amino acid to help transport them across that wall. If someone's digestive process is off in any way, we can lose the opportunity to absorb many minerals. Someone with low stomach acid, or a deficiency of enzymes, can absorb less minerals on a daily basis. Other health conditions, both acute and chronic, can affect absorption, as well. If we look at Albion Minerals, for example, we find that they are far above the standard being used everywhere else. Albion minerals come in the exact size needed to pass through the intestinal wall and they are already chelated to an amino acid. While this makes perfect sense and it seems that everyone should be doing this, only Albion is. This is why we chose Albion as our organic mineral source.
Vitamin E is another area where the form can determine the best possible absorption. Knowing what we know about vitamin E and its various forms, we chose Tocomax tocotrienols to go into our formula. Tocomax has been shown to have has an average of 250% higher absorption of each individual tocotrienols compared to another tocotrienol oil extract, as confirmed by a simple bioavailability study by Carotech, Inc. With Tocomax’s patented manufacturing process, it retains many of the beneficial whole food phytonutrients such as squalene, phytosterols and trace amounts of mixed carotene and CoQ10. Better absorption while retaining its whole food co-factors elevates Tocomax above other forms of vitamin E commonly being used today. Additionally, we add natural tocopherols to provide the widest spectrum of vitamin E available. Better form = better bio-availability = better results!
If you take the time to go through our list of 25 ingredients, you'll find exceptional brand names like Tocomax, Albion, Caromix, K2Vital, and Quali-C. While branded ingredients cost much more at the manufacturing level, we believe that they are the only choice that makes sense when creating a supplement for children. Ingredients that come in an active state are available for a child's body right away. Our children take these vitamins on a daily basis. We're not about to give them anything but the best. Give us a try and you'll discover why we say, "Tocomax, the smart choice for vitamin E!"
Vitamin Angels and Magical Nutrients
Vitamin Angels and Magical Nutrients have teamed up to help supply the vital nutrients that children and mother's need worldwide. Vitamin Angels is one of the four charities that we support through our donations and efforts.
For over 20 years, Vitamin Angels has been helping at-risk populations in need—specifically pregnant women, new mothers, and children under five—gain access to lifesaving and life changing vitamins and minerals. Vitamin Angels targets places that most governments do not help, enabling them to reach the remaining 30% of undernourished children who are missed. Vitamin Angels has both International and Domestic programs, whereby they can reach millions of children home and abroad. In 2014, Vitamin Angels reached nearly 40 million children, helping to reduce childhood blindness and mortality with vitamin A supplementation. Millions of children around the world are suffering from ‘hidden hunger’, a lack of micronutrients that can lead to disease and even death. In fact, 45% of all childhood deaths are attributable to undernutrition. Vitamin Angels and Magical Nutrients are working to change this.
At Magical Nutrients, we believe that is important to help educate and empower children to use their voices in creating world change. Our motto is, "Take care of yourself, so that you can help take care of others." Everyone who purchases our Magical Wizard's Potion multivitamin and mineral formula receives a scratch-off card containing an alphanumeric code. By going to the Redeem and Donate page on our site (www.MagicalNutrients.com) and entering the code, each child can then Vote for the charity they wish for us to support. Each quarter, we'll tally up the votes and split the proceeds accordingly. Every charity benefits, as we let the child's loving lead us.
We believe that children are magical and have the ability to make the perfect choices. Jack Petrash, children's educator and author states that, "Children are going to need to ask the questions that nobody's asking yet to help solve the world's problems." We are here to help empower them to do so, and believe that they can do it!
We hope that you join us in ending hidden hunger and malnourishment worldwide. Good nutrition starts in the home with whole foods. Whenever we can help to fill in the gaps, we're happy to do so. Vitamin Angels and Magical Nutrients are making a difference.

K2VITAL - A Vital Nutrient!
K2Vital is another one of our magical ingredients with impressive branding behind it. Of course, branding equals proven effectiveness, but that's not all that it has going for it. K2Vital stands out as the purest, most active, and proven safe form of vitamin K2 on the market. Children's bodies need their vitamins to support them in growing into the healthiest and best that they can be and K2Vital is here to help. In addition to supporting bone growth in children, K2Vital has also been shown to provide heart and cardiovascular benefits. Recent research also shows a role in supporting skin and brain health, balancing blood sugar, and boosting cellular energy.
Most vitamin formulas contain the less active vitamin K1 form. K2Vital provides us with the active form thought to be the "missing link" in modern diets. This wonder nutrient can be found in fermented foods such as sauerkraut, cheese, and natto (a Japanese food dish). Depleted soils and plants however, make getting vitamin K2 more difficult in today's modern society. Fortunately, supplementing with the preformed vitamin K2 enables today's children to have the benefits our ancestors had.
K2Vital - a vital nutrient for children everywhere. At Magical Nutrients, we're glad to welcome K2Vital as a part of our family!

Gummy Vitamins: A Dentist's Best Friend
Are Gummy vitamins a dentist's best friend? According to American Dental Association spokeswoman and children's dentist, Mary Hayes, they are. She states, "I will see children who have been cavity-free, and then they start eating these gummy vitamins, and boom, they have cavities within three months to a year." With each gummy containing 1-2 grams of sugar each, it's easy to see how the daily recommended dosage of gummies easily supplies 1-2 cubes of sugar a day.
Some dentists say the marketing of gummy vitamins is deceptive. "Parents see the famous characters and the word 'vitamin' and think, 'Good, this is healthy,' but they don't realize oral hygiene is much more of an issue with these," says Jeff Davis, a pediatric dentist in McLean, Va. Dr. Michelle Stafford warns, "Unfortunately, Gummy vitamins are very hard on your child’s teeth. Just as gummy bears stick into the grooves of your child’s teeth and can cause cavities; gummy vitamins also stick into your child’s teeth. Even with the best brushing, sometimes the toothbrush bristles literally cannot get to the bottom of the deepest grooves of the back teeth. Therefore, any sticky sugar particles can stick there and potentially cause cavities."
For the first time in 40 years, the Center For Disease Control has seen a statistically significant rise in cavities in preschoolers at all income levels. With 6 to 10 cavities per child, the levels of decay are so severe that many of these young children are often being put under with general anesthesia. “We have had a huge increase in kids going to the operating room,” said Dr. Jonathan Shenkin, a pediatric dentist in Augusta, Me., and a spokesman for the American Dental Association. “We’re treating more kids more aggressively earlier.”
The use of gummy vitamins as a delivery format for nutrients presents several problems.
1) The material used for the gummies often sticks to children's teeth. This, along with the sugar coating that is used is linked to the increase in children's cavities.
2) Children are already over-consuming added sugar in their diet. The American Heart Association, The World Health Association, and the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee all point out that children should be consuming 12 grams per day or less. Unfortunately, the average for some children is about 134 grams a day. Adding more sugar to their diet is not helpful.
3) The amount of sugar listed on a gummy label is misleading. The material used to make the gummy is a sugar that is often listed as a carbohydrate, as it's not technically the same as the sucrose, cane sugar, or fructose that goes on top of it. Most materials are gelatin or syrups of one type or another, that are complex sugars.
4) Gummy vitamins are 95% gummy and only 5% vitamins. Children aren't deficient in gummy! The amount of nutrients that you can include in gummy vitamins is limited by the gummy itself. It just won't hold together that well with too many nutrients.
5) The manufacturing process limits what nutrients can be used in a gummy. Gummies undergo a high heat process that can destroy many nutrients. Vitamin A is very sensitive to heat, so natural carotenoid forms can't be used and less expensive forms such as retinyl palmitate and acetate have to be used in gummies. Calcium is challenging to include in gummies, so companies leave it out, even though its essential to children developing strong bones and teeth.
A few gummy vitamin companies have started selling a sugar-free version of their product, which is very helpful, but you still have the issue with a lack of nutrients and the gummy material sticking to teeth. It may be that gummies are best left to the realm of candies until these type of problems can be solved. As a vitamin they leave much to be desired.

When it came to choosing which minerals to use in our formulas, we wanted to have the best minerals, with the greatest absorption, purest quality, trustworthy reputation, and the best science-backed results. We wanted the best in the world, which meant only one company could fulfill all of our requirements and expectations, Albion Minerals.
For close to 60 years, Albion Minerals has been a science and research-based, family-owned company that has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in clinical studies and earned the rights to over 150 patents on their mineral chelate products. Science and their patented chelate technology means that people will receive organic minerals amino acid chelates that their body's can absorb. Excellence in every phase of production means that our customers are receiving the best!
When you ingest minerals, they have to be broken down into a size that can pass through the intestinal wall. Once they have reached that size through normal digestive processes, they have to be bound to a carrier protein (chelated) to escort them through the wall of the intestines. There's a lot that can happen in this multiphase process that can interfere with nutrients getting to where a child's body needs them most. Albion has simplified the process by creating minerals in the correct size needed to pass through the intestinal wall and pre-chelated to the amino acids necessary to transport them. This creates what we call "Active-State" nutrients, that are ready to be used as soon as they enter the body.
Some companies mix minerals with amino acids and call them chelates. This is a long way from what Albion has created through their patented processes. In our four and a half year journey to create Magical Nutrients, we've had to turn down companies who used this approach on our way to becoming the best children's vitamins, ever! We feel that children deserve the best nutrients, regardless of the cost to us. We could produce cheap products, but we choose not to.
There's even more however, when it comes to Albion Minerals. The amino acid form that is chelated to the minerals is glycine. Glycine is known for its ability to help bodies grow and repair. High amounts of glycine are found in muscle, skin, and connective tissues. Glycine helps to support healthy blood sugar levels, which all children need, especially when the average child consumes 134 grams of sugar a day. Glycine is found in fish, meats, milk, cheese, and beans.
We hope that you'll join us in providing the best nutrients for your children. Thanks to Albion Minerals, that possibility now exists. Look for the Gold Medallion on labels as a sign of mineral excellence and companies who care enough to offer the best!
We love Caromix!
Caromix has tremendous stability and bioavailability with up to 126% greater absorption over other forms of vitamin A. Caromix is formulated to match the concentrations of natural carotenoids found in an average daily diet of fruits and vegetables, and provide a significant concentration of provitamin A.
Instead of only supplying one carotenoid alone as most vitamin companies do, Caromix supplies Beta-carotene, Alpha-carotene, Lutein, Lycopene, Zeaxanthin, and Cryptoxanthin. Caromix contains carotenoids derived from natural whole food sources such as carrot oil, marigold flowers and tomatoes.
Three of these powerful carotenoids, Beta-carotene, Alpha-carotene, and Cryptoxanthin are available as provitamin A. They are converted to vitamin A in the body only as the body needs it. As water-soluble carotenoids, any excess is excreted, which protects the body from building up too much vitamin A in tissues.
Lutein, Lycopene, and zeaxanthin are the other three carotenoids in the Caromix formula. They are powerful antioxidants that give fruits and vegetables their red and yellow colors. There is an increasing body of research being recorded on their benefits. They help to support optimal health of the eyes and other tissues throughout the body.
Other naturally occurring whole food phytonutrients that can be found in Caromix include tocopherols, phytosterols, phytofluene, phytoene, gamma-carotene, cryptoxanthin and zeta-carotene as they occur naturally.
In a world where most children aren't getting the recommended daily amount of fruits and vegetables, Caromix helps to provide what's missing in their diet. With Caromix as a part of our Magical Wizard's Potion, children have a fun and tasty way to get needed nutrients!
Parents can help to ensure that children get the necessary amount of fruits and vegetables daily by modeling this behavior and having adequate amounts of fruits and vegetables around the house for them to choose from.
Starting a little garden and teaching them to grow their own can be a wonderful way to enhance family togetherness and create a sense of accomplishment and value for your children. There are many resources on the Internet, but we recommend OrganicGardening.com. If you really want to see something magical, connect your children to gardening and let Mother Nature do the rest!
"Children are born with a sense of wonder and an affinity for Nature. Properly cultivated, these values can mature into ecological literacy, and eventually into sustainable patterns of living." ~ Z. Barlow
“Sugar Papers” Reveal Industry Role in 1970s Dental ProgramBy Cristin E. Kearns, Stanton A. Glantz, Laura A. Schmidt
A newly discovered cache of industry documents reveals that the sugar industry worked closely with the National Institutes of Health in the 1960s and ‘70s to develop a federal research program focused on approaches other than sugar reduction to prevent tooth decay in American children.
An analysis of those papers by researchers at UC San Francisco appears in the open-source scientific journal, PLoS Medicine.
The archive of 319 industry documents, which were uncovered in a public collection at the University of Illinois, revealed that a sugar industry trade organization representing 30 international members had accepted the fact that sugar caused tooth decay as early as 1950, and adopted a strategy aimed at identifying alternative approaches to reducing tooth decay.
“The dental community has always known that preventing tooth decay required restricting sugar intake,” said first author Cristin Kearns, DDS, MBA, a UCSF postdoctoral scholar who discovered the archives. “It was disappointing to learn that the policies we are debating today could have been addressed more than forty years ago.”
While tooth decay is largely preventable, it remains the leading chronic disease among U.S. children, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC estimates that more than half of American children and teens have cavities in their adult teeth, and 15.6 percent of children age 6 to 19 have untreated tooth decay, which can lead to tooth loss, infections and abscesses.
“Our findings are a wake-up call for government officials charged with protecting the public health, as well as public health advocates, to understand that the sugar industry, like the tobacco industry, seeks to protect profits over public health,” Glantz added.
